Web Development
I enjoy making web sites come to life using creative visual design as well as inventive software architecture and development. I’ve most preferred working within a skilled and seasoned team where we collaborate to effectively bring the interactions to life.
As a professional web developer with a fine art degree, creative web site construction work continues to validate that the best web site designs come from the designer who understands enough about HTML and CSS to match the layout challenges of responsive and mobile-first presentation.

Two West marketing had this social conversation starter PDF waiting to be shared with the public. I said, “I can make that an app!”. So I did. Using the poker dealer deck motif, I designed, coded, and tested this multi-platform mobile app where you either press a suit button or fling cards up the screen like you’re dealing.

TwoWest was overspending on hosting. I consolidated their properties to one server and installed and custom-templated an ExpressionEngine site that would serve data for multiple domains as well as share the content between the sites without server request delays.
TwoWest was creating weekly podcasts and needed a way to manage and own their own content – not by a third party web site. I built ExpressionEngine site for both mobile and desktop displays to hold the data in-house and share it between their two web site domain properties.
A Kansas City architect wanted to showcase his projects with mostly images without the desire to learn a new CMS. I built a site that allowed him to manage it all from Flickr.com with no need for logging-in anywhere else.

Rockhurst University admissions department wanted to improve their outreach for more applicants. Justin Powell designed this web site section update and I produced it within Rockhurst’s existing system.
Sprint needed a kiosk interface that would educate consumers on the speed of their 4G network. I provided the technical Flash development while Justin Powell provided the visual design within Sprint brand standard guidelines.
One of several ExpressionEngine sites that I co-created during my 3 year tenure at Two West.
Landmark Bank wanted to impress upon their customers a satisfying feeling of grandeur and accomplishment when closing on a loan. Printing a customized plaque was just what they wanted. This Plaque-O-Matic would send a printable PDF file with whatever message they wanted to type with the look of a real heavy wall-mounted copper plaque. Text size would shrink to fit the plaque no matter how much copy they included.
Flash
Importing the XML file produced by the OTP Editor, this interface served as the front end for secure PDF document distribution for both autoplay DVDs and online. The DVD product was distributed as an official part number via relevant auto dealerships.
Flash
This all-Flash site for a Kansas City designer Chance Goldston included dynamic loading music and imagery. He designed and I developed from the Photoshop files.
ARCHIVED SITE
Designed by Sitek Design & Justin Powell, this Flash site with an artsy, unique navigation was created to showcase an architect’s professional work.

DevilDogBrew.com, FrogDocBrew.com, TWSCafe.com (Together We Served Café) were Magento eCommerce sites to generate coffee sales. I customized the Magento templates, illustrated the Devil Dog and Frog Doc, as well as produced the coffee bag labels.
Original Technical Publications needed a better way to distribute collections of secure PDF files — specifically, archived automobile tech manuals. In response, I conceived and developed a publishing system to manage unlimited-depth menu hierarchies and output XML files to be imported by any front-end interface on any platform.

Powell Gardens did not have a way to manage their own web site content. Each page/section was designed with a different background color and flower graphic so I created a custom CMS which allowed the client to edit copy within each page of the design.

VISIT SITE
Back in 1993, I needed to direct my excitement and enthusiasm for the new WWW by making my very own web site. It was the cliché personal site that even had a Friends & Family page. Creating the one image with Adobe Photoshop, I used the faithful “map” and “area” tags. I was pretty proud of myself in that my home page did not look flat and texty like most other sites from the web’s first generation.
